What is a Pediatric Dentist?
A pediatric dentist is a specialist in the field of dentistry that focuses on the
unique dental needs and oral health of infants, children and adolescents. Pediatric dentists
have two to three additional years of education and training beyond a four-year
dental school curriculum. Areas of special training include: child behavior/psychology,
oral facial growth and development, hospital dentistry, sedation, pharmacology,
emergency dentistry, treatment of the medically compromised and developmentally
disabled children, early decay prevention, public health dentistry. Above all,
pediatric dentists only treat children, so they are very "tuned-in" to children
and know what it takes to make your child's dental visits as pleasant and fear-free
as possible.
