First Visit

We are accepting new patients from infancy to 21years of age. Parents are always welcome to accompany their children into treatment areas regardless of age. We feel this enhances communication which is the key to a successful doctor-patient-parent relationship.

A first dental visit by the first birthday will start your child on a lifetime of good dental health. Why so early? We feel that the earlier the first visit, the better the chance of preventing dental problems. Dental problems such as decay can begin as soon as a tooth erupts. But the good news is dental decay is preventable.

Infant/Toddler visit
Do not be concerned if you feel your child may not be ready to cooperate in the dental office at this young age. Rest assured our first visit exams for babies are very simple and non-threatening. Your baby will sit on your lap for this first visit. We try to make it fun and playful.

During this first visit we will check: (1) for cavities; (2) oral structures; (3) proper tooth eruption patterns; (4) to see how well the teeth are being cleaned and offer cleaning suggestions if necessary; (5) proper fluoride practices; (6) review nutritional habits as it relates to dental health. We will also gladly answer any questions you may have.

Older Children
If it is your older child's (ages 3 and up) first dental exam we will likely also perform a cleaning and fluoride treatment. We will also evaluate the need for dental x-rays. Every child is unique - not every 3 year old will be ready (or have a need) for a full cleaning, fluoride treatment and x-rays. We do not have any hard-fast rules about these additional services and will tailor your child's first visit with their emotional behavior. We always share your concern for your child to have a positive first dental visit.

Previous Dental Experiences
If your child has had previous dental experiences (positive or negative) please share them with us. The more information you can give us the better. Transferring dental records and x-rays before the appointment is very helpful.
